every individual has the capacity to highlight and suppress different aspects of their histories through memory, perhaps captured by stories, text, and photographs, thus creating an autobiography that is inevitably edited.

tokenism: the practice of making only a token effort or doing no more than the minimum

one of my anthropology professors noted that some areas of my final essay were "tokenistic." i had to google what it meant. so cheers professor, ill be using that word everyday but will be living my life in the opposite, asshole.
